HANMER BOTANICAL WALK |
Very varied: walk by a mere, across undulating farmland, a little woodland along the way, cross Whixall Moss, along part of the canal. Fairly strenuous.
Hanmer to Whitchurch – This is a linear route that makes use of the Whitchurch Wrexham bus service. There is a lot of variety along the 14 mile way. It starts alongside Hanmer Mere, a little woodland at first, continuing across undulating pastures to the little village of Beidden Heath.

A section through lanes and alongside the canal to the village of Bettisfield to its former Railway Station on the now defunct Cambrain Railway.
The old railway trackbed is now a permissive path, along the way can
be seen a farm growing blueberries, and another which is one of the
largest tree nurseries in the country.
The rusting ruins of the plant that formerly processed peat from the Whixall and Fenns Moss is reach. From here one crosses the Moss, now a Nature Reserve of approximately 11 square kilometres. There is a lot of interest along this section with the unique bog flora, and its insect life, and some interesting birds if you are lucky.

After crossing the moss, the route continues along its edge through some woodland, before reaching the Llangollen Canal; a short section along the towpath, before leaving it to cross farm land back to Whitchurch.
